Napa Valley Register

Faith Ventrello and I have at least one thing in common: We were both music directors for our respective college radio stations.

Faith’s college radio station was called KCMU. By a twist of fate, those are the call letters of the radio station that she operates today: KCMU FM 103.3 will soon broadcast out of Faith and Steven Ventrello’s eclectic new café, Folklore, located on Third Street in downtown Napa.

At Napa’s new record store/radio station/cafe/bar, vinyl is organized not by genre, but loosely alphabetically. The “Barbie” movie soundtrack, for example, can be found in the same divider as Chuck Berry.

Napa’s new record shop has an unmatched wine list

This hip addition to downtown Napa is many things: a record shop, a cafe, a bar and a radio station. Folklore also serves light, European-inspired fare such as cheese and charcuterie, tartines and caviar. Try something you’ve never had before from the whimsical wine list, like a Grand Cru Chasselas from Switzerland or a 40-year-old port.

The idea reflects Henschel-Ventrello’s background in the music industry and Ventrello’s background in both making and importing wine. Now, it is set to open later this month...

At Folklore, a new downtown Napa establishment that defies easy description, University of Oregon art student Giulia Guerrera perused aisles of new and used vinyl records, settling on an album by an obscure electronic artist simply because she liked the strange cover.

“Demonic, in a good way,” the heavily pierced Guerrera, 19, said of the album’s artwork.
